Hi All,
What are your opinions on the updated Firefox Terms?
The key points to me are
1. license to all content entered to Firefox. The wording is unclear in the current agreement. The license, in my view, cannot be acceptable.
2. "selling the data". The legalistic ways to deal with it. I understand the need for adverts and would not mind them. Yet, the legals must be framed only around adverts not that broadly.
3. user termination. Firefox can "kick" anyone they dislike. Not good!
In my view, the terms of use, both 25 Feb and 28 Feb, completely undermine
Firefox.Â
If I try to talk your language, you undermine your commercial position
and destroy differentiation. Before this move, Firefox prospects were
poor. Now, unless you do something drastic, the prospects are disastrous!
If you consider recovering any trust, you must eliminate these updates,
write explicitly that you do not sell (!) the data and do not take any
license. Even that may not be enough!
If your market share goes to 0.2%, there will be no data to sell, and
little else to worry about - that is your trajectory.Â
