Hi team,

Over the past 24 hours, we've been experiencing a spike in the following API error:

Status(StatusCode="Unavailable", Detail="Authentication backend unavailable.")

The issue appears intermittently — the error occurs for a period of time, and then the same API call succeeds without any changes on our end. This is causing a significant number of intermittent failures in our product.

Could you please check if there have been any recent changes that might be related to this behavior? Also, let me know if there's anything we need to adjust or investigate on our side.

Thanks,
Shipra!

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the Google Ads API support team.

I understand that you have encountered the 'UNAVAILABLE' error while utilizing the Google Ads API. To assist you further, could you please provide us with complete API logs (request and response logs with request-id and request header) generated at your end.

If you are using a client library and haven't enabled the logging yet, I would request you to enable logging for the specific client library that you are using. You can refer to the guides Java, .Net, PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl to enable logging at your end. For REST interface requests, you can enable logging via the curl command by using the -i flag.

Thanks,

Hey!
This is happening intermittently! If i try to repro it to get the request ids and response ids i won't get the error but in our logs we do see this error. This does not seems like it is related to any specific request. the same request on retry will just succeed.
And as Olivier has also shared there team is also seeing same thing. Could we check it as a generic issue?
In the meantime i will try to add logging to get these details at least the request ids.

+ An update: This issue is still happening with same frequency as reported 3 days ago.

Thanks,
Shipra

Hi Shipra,

The intermittent nature of this error is quite challenging to diagnose with limited information. Note that there has been no service disruption or outage recently. You may check the Google Ads Status Dashboard. We at least need the 'request-id' of the failed request to investigate further. Let me emphasize that without the complete API logs (or at least the request-id), we will not be able to assist further. Additionally, send us the account ID and the email address you used to generate the OAuth2 credentials.

If you are using a client library and haven't enabled the logging yet, I would request you to enable logging for the specific client library that you are using. You can refer to the guides Java, .Net, PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl to enable logging at your end.

You can send the details via Reply privately to the author option, or direct private reply to this email.

Thanks,
Google Ads API Team
